CSCI5629: Intelligent Visual Information System for Mixed Reality

This course explores the foundations and practices of building visual interfaces to enhance human-data and human-AI interactions within Mixed Reality (MR) systems. We will review both the fundamental human-centered and technical factors involved in developing such systems. It covers both the human-centered and technical factors essential for developing such systems, integrating topics from various fields, including interaction design and techniques, 3D computer graphics (e.g., rendering), computer vision (e.g., detection, pose estimation), and applied machine learning (e.g., LLM predictions). The course format includes lectures, discussions, homework assignments, and semester-long group projects. Designed for graduate students and advanced undergraduates, the course requires strong programming skills. Its goal is to enhance technical skills in MR and AI while deepening students' understanding of how these technologies can enrich human experiences across various domains. Students will be encouraged to create innovative projects with potential for submission to research conferences. No enforced prerequisites, but familiarity with virtual reality (CSCI5619), computer graphics (CSCI4611, CSCI5607), data visualization (CSCI5609), user interface (CSCI5115), and computer vision (CSCI 5561, CSCI5563) would be highly recommended.
